The Arsenal Europa League squad for today’s match in Ukraine against FC Vorskla has been released, and it contains the usual mix of of first team players such as Aaron Ramsey, impressive youngsters like Guendouzi and some academy players, some of whom you may never have heard of.
What is, however, interesting is that Emery hasn’t included any player who has been a regular in Arsenal’s First 11 this season. Perhaps with the North London Derby against Spurs at the weekend in mind, players such as Aubameyang, Torreira, Xhaka, Bellerin and even young Alex Iwobi have been left out altogether.
Nonetheless, Emery, whose team has already qualified for the next stage of the competition, has ensured there is still enough experience and quality to be hopeful of a positive result against the Ukrainians – Peter Cech, Mohammed Elneny, Aaron Ramsey, Mkhitaryan, Lichtsteiner, and Rob Holding are in the travelling party.
The less familiar names on the list are Charlie Gilmour, Zech Medley, Deyan Iliev, Jordi Osei-Tutu and Dominic Thompson. They will be hoping to get some minutes and convince Emery that they have a future at Arsenal, just as Emile Smith Rowe has been doing.
