Maurizio Sarri, Chelsea Head Coach, has stated that he is very keen for Cesc Fabregas and David Luiz to extend their stay at the Chelsea, even if getting the deals done might prove difficult.
The contracts of both players expire at the end of this season and they are, therefore, free to start discussing with interested clubs outside England from the new year.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s match against Wolves, Sarri revealed that he had asked the club to try to keep both players. He, however admitted that doing so might not be so straightforward because of the advanced ages of the duo.
“I spoke with the club about this one month ago. I know very well that it’s not easy, but I think we can do a new deal for both.
“They are very important players for us. It is very difficult to find a centre-back for this level and it is very difficult to find a centre-midfielder technically like Fabregas, so I think they have to stay with us.
“The deal is very difficult for this reason [both players are over 30 years of age]. The club wants a short contract and the players want a long contract It is difficult for this reason but I think we can find a solution.”
