ASUU strike still in progress

Following reports earlier today, 7th January, 2019, that the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had reached an agreement concerning the prolonged strike action, the union has  quickly issued a statement, saying the “strike was still in progress”.

ASUU embarked on this latest strike in the first week of November, 2018, and after today’s relatively positive meeting with the FG, there has been hope that the public universities in Nigeria would soon re-open for academic activties.

However, in a series of tweets on its official Twitter handle @ASUUNGR, it has clarified its position, saying that the final decision about calling off the strike depends on its National Executive Committee’s review of the Federal Government’s new commitments.

ASUU’s Statement:

Meeting update: It is not yet Uhuru!

The President has said after the meeting with Labour minister that the National Executive Committee of the union will review its decisions based on the new commitment by the federal government.

Until then, the strike is still in progress…
