Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United manager, has expressed his delight at being drawn to face old foes Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the 4th Round of the FA Cup.
This match will be the first time in 22+ years that both teams will meet in a domestic cup competition with neither Sir Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger on the touchline.
It will also see the two most successful FA Cup teams go head to head, and the prestige of the tie and size of the task is not lost on the United manager, as he described it as ‘fantastic’ and needed for his team to be tested and to ‘go to the next level’.
Speaking to his club’s in-house TV, MUTV, on his feelings about the Arsenal draw, he said:
Fantastic. We need these games. These players need the big games to be challenged.
Of course, everyone says we’ve won the last five games but they have not been against big opposition. But you can only beat the teams you play and, for us to get tested and go to the next level, you need those games. And if you want to win the FA Cup, you have to beat everybody.”
Arsenal has won the FA Cup a record 13 times while United, with the second best record, has won it twelve times.
The match will be played on the weekend of 25-28 January, 2019,
