The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced Egypt as the new hosts of the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The hosting right was won by Egypt after a vote by CAF officials today, 8th January, 2019, in Dakar, Senegal.
Cameroon had been initially selected to host the 24-team football tournament but was stripped by CAF of the hosting rights due to the African soccer governing body’s dissatisfaction with the standard of facilities and infrastructure offered by the country.
Egypt emerged as CAF’s replacement after a keenly contested battle with ever-ready hosting candidates South Africa.
