Mohamed Salah, Egypt and Liverpool FC superstar forward, has been named the African Player of the Year for 2018.
In a glamorous event hosted in Dakar, Senegal, Salah edged out fellow Liverpool player and Senegal striker Sadio Mane and Arsenal and Gabon striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to win the title.
This marks the second consecutive time the nimble-footed Egyptian is winning the award, which has been won in past by some true African legends, such as Rashidi Yekini, Samuel Eto’o, Kanu Nwankwo, and Aubameyang who finished in the top three this year.
Salah retains the title of Africa’s best which he also won in 2017.
Of the three finalists on this occasion, Sadio Mane is the only one who has never won the African Player of the Year title; Aubameyang, who was absent at the event, won it in 2014.
