Arsenal have finally contacted Real Madrid over the possibility of signing James Rodriguez on loan this January, according to reports.

The Colombian star has not been as regular as he would like with Bayern Munich, where he’s on loan from Real Madrid, this season. Nonetheless, he has contributed three goals and two assists in his twelve appearances so far.

Rodriguez is billed to return to Madrid in the summer, however, there have been reports that he is surplus to the Spanish giants’ requirements.

According to the Independent, Arsenal are open to signing Rodriguez permanently in the summer, but have requested to sign him on loan, for now.

This means he will be ending his current loan spell at Bayern to spend the remainder of the Premier League campaign with the Gunners, before a permanent move in the summer.

However, Arsenal is not the only club interested in Rodriguez.

Napoli is reportedly interested, too, and Real is believed to favour dealing with Tottenham Hotspur, with the possibility of it being part of their bid to take Christian Eriksen to Madrid.

Due to lack of funds, Emery can only bring in players on loan in this January Transfer Window.
