President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, on the orders Code of Conduct Tribunal.
The president made the announcement, and explained all the circumstances considered in reaching the decision, in a lengthy statement posted on his official Twitter handle @MBuhari.
According to him, Onnoghen will remain suspended pending the conclusion of his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
As a consequence, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed has been sworn in as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria by the President.
President Buhari explained that Mohammed’s ascension was based on his being the next most senior justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
