Manchester United paid Jose Mourinho and his coaching team £19.6m in compensation following his December dismissal.
The Old Trafford club made this disclosure in their second quarter financial results.
Speculations about Mourinho’s sacking had been on for about two months before his eventual sacking in December after an embarrassing performance in a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool.
A passage of the financial results, which was released to the New York Stock Exchange, relating to the compensation read:
“Exceptional items for the quarter were £19.6m, relating to compensation to the former manager and certain members of the coaching staff for loss of office.”
Manchester United’s on-field fortunes have since improved a great deal since the temporary appointment of former player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – Before Tuesday’s 2-0 home loss to PSG, Solskjaer’s team had won 10 of his first 11 games, while also playing much more appealingly.
United’s next fixture is against Chelsea in the FA Cup, on Monday the 18th of February.
