Arsenal boss Unai Emery will give his approval to a clearout of players in the summer; and Skhodran Mustafi, who has had another torrid season in an Arsenal shirt, is reported to be the player the manager is most keen to dispose of.
The German defender has been widely criticized for Arsenal’s surprising home loss to Crystal Palace this past weekend – he made a blunder that directly led to a goal when he allowed Wilfried Zaha in on goal to give Palace a 2-1 lead at a time when the Gunners looked more likely to take the lead.
The Daily Mail is now reporting that with Emery needing to augment his relatively meagre summer budget of £45million, he will have to sell some players, including Mustafi, Elneny, on-loan Ospina, and high-earners like Ozil and Mkhitaryan.
According to the report, in addition to the about £200,000 that will be removed from Arsenal’s wage bill because of the certain departures of the retiring Cech and Juventus-bound Ramsey, Emery will be happy to free up the huge combined wages of about £550,000 being paid to ozil and Mkhitaryan too.
Arsenal’s reinforcement priority areas are defenders and wingers, as Lacazette and Aubameyang have been very good in attack while Leno has impressed since displacing Cech as the Arsenal Number one.
